Everyone should have cold water in their own 1 gallon water jug. My old student says to get a Coleman 1 gallon.
Get one at CVS, Target, Walmart, Walgreens, Odd Lots, Odd jobs, a supermarket with a summer section, BJs or Dicks Sporting Goods.
Wear hats, white tshirts, running shorts, sunglasses and light weight cross country sneakers.
This is not a fashion show. The only thing you will want to put real money into is a good pair if shoes. The rest is just light weight clothes to get sweaty in
... Unless it's a theme day. Than it's theme all the way.
Socks get wet. Dew, sweat, rain, puddles, water & whatever else we can't control.
Try and keep rain gear; dry socks, plastic sheet protectors, giant plastic trash bag to wear in case of rain ( or you can get one of those foldable rain coats ) in that case the plastic trash bag is for your stuff to be put in so it doesn't get wet.
Lots of ways to say this:
1. It doesn't stop being hot until October
2. Band camp is mostly an outside "thing"
3. The sun can make you wacky.
My point.... If you've been inside, in an air conditioned room all summer, up till way late and wake up way late, not out in the sun at all, then you might struggle through the first few days of band camp.
This means you need to start going for walks in the sun and let your body get used to the heat as well as exerting energy in the heat. Sun block doesn't do that for you. All sun block does is help your tan and skin out.
1. Go for walks outside
2. Hydration doesn't happen over nite. It's a condition that takes a few days to be "properly hydrated"
3. Choose the right sun screen. I personally like dry spray. But that's me.
4. Avoid heavy breakfasts. Fruits, trail mix, light cereal, things like that.
It may seem silly, but it's these little things you do NOW that will matter later.
Loose fitting clothes
Fruit as snacks in the afternoon
1 gallon jugs full of COLD WATER.
Sips not chugs
Hats are a must
Sense of humor
This will only make us stronger.
This will make a great story.
Remember the time it was hotter than hades at Band Camp?
